Teaching Assistant (T/A) Program: Teens & adults may receive discounts and/or free classes when they volunteer to assist teaching Little Dragons & Ninja classes. Please ask Donovan for details.

Kids Sport Canada

KidSport is a national children’s program that helps kids overcome the financial barriers preventing or limiting their participation in organized sport.  

Sport NB and KidSport believe no kid should be left on the sidelines and all should be given the opportunity to experience the positive benefits organized sport has to offer. KidSport New Brunswick provides funding of up to $400/year/child for youth aged 18 and younger. KidSport funding can be used to cover registration costs and/or the purchase of equipment. P.R.O. Kids

P.R.O. Kids (Positive Recreation Opportunities for Kids) is available to children & youth who, due to financial limitations, would otherwise be unable to participate in art, culture, recreation or sporting activities. P.R.O. Kids enables more children to experience the many benefits of recreation.

Canadian Tire Jumpstart

Helping young people increase their physical activity. Applications for assistance can typically be submitted from January 15 to November 1, with the goal of distributing funds over Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter activities so children in need are given an opportunity to register for sports and recreation programs.

The process is easy and done in complete confidence. Parents or guardians can apply for Jumpstart funding applying online at jumpstart.canadiantire.ca. For more information you can contact Jumpstart by phone: 1-844-YES-PLAY (937-7529) or email: jumpstart@cantire.com.

KARATE CLASSES

KV Karate offers training programs for people of all ages in a family friendly atmosphere where adults and children can begin training together in the dojo at the same time. After an introductory period, students eventually become placed into groups with their peers based on their training level and needs. Karate training will focus on improving listening skills, concentration, building self-confidence and physical fitness. Over time, karate training will also improve self-discipline, improved decision making and overall focus on executing tasks. KV Karate also offers competition training for students starting at age 8.

Little Dragons: Ages 5-6 • Tuesdays (A) or Thursdays (B) 6-7 $35 per month

Introduction to karate with emphasis on “FUNdamentals.” Parents may train with their child as a family class.

Ninjas: Ages 7-9 • Tuesdays & Thursdays•6-7 $55 per month

Classes are built around having fun physical activities with an introduction to karate basics. The “Active Start” and “FUNdamentals” stages of LTAD are taught here.These classes build on the teachings of Little Dragons and focuses on the “Learn to Train” stages of LTAD. However, the emphasis is on traditional karate while still having fun. Classes are 1 hour in duration and typically begin with a group activity followed by smaller group lessons. Parents may train with their child as a family class.

Junior: Ages10-15 White & Orange • Tuesdays & Thursdays•7-8 $55 per month

Introduction to karate Basics (White - Orange Belt) Classes start with warm up drills followed by individual belt level training. Training & grading progression is based on the individual's own level. Parents and children can train together within this age group (family class). Students will learn applications of kata (bunkai) and kumite principles & techniques. NEW: Parents may join & train together with their child as a family class.

Junior: Ages12-15 Green to Brown • Tuesdays & Thursdays•8-9 $60 per month

Intermediate belt level karate training with added refinement as part of the teaching. Classes start with warm up drills followed by individual belt level training. Training & grading progression is based on the individual's own level. Parents and children can train together within this age group (family class). Students will learn applications of kata (bunkai) and kumite principles & techniques..

Adult 16 & Up Classes

White - Blue: Mondays and Wednesdays• 7-8 $60 per month

This class teaches the essential skills of karate at the level of the individual's physical abilities. Classes start with adult-based warm up drills followed by individual belt level training. Training progression is based on the individual's own level. Students will learn applications of kata (bunkai) and kumite principles & techniques..

Brown - Black: Monday & Wednesday•60 MINUTES 8-9 65 per month

Advanced karate training with more emphasis on self defence (goshin jitsu) and kata applications (bunkai). Classes start with adult-based warm up drills followed by individual belt level training. Fee: Training progression is based on the individual's own level. Students will learn applications of kata (bunkai) and kumite principles & techniques..

Grading

Grading is not based on time in the martial art but on demonstrated knowledge and skill. Stripes and or full belts are awarded when a student understands and can demonstrate all material up the level they are challenging.

Students 11 years of age and under are looked at all throughout the year to see how they are progressing.

For students 12 and over, from white to brown, gradings are held at specific points throughout the year and the student will receive notice in advance of the grading.

For students looking to challenge black belt levels or teaching titles, several pre-gradings will proceed the actual exam. All students looking to challenge at this level must have the approval of the New Brunswick Chito-Ryo Technical Committee in addition to their Sensei.

COMPETITION CLASSES

Competition training classes follow the Karate Canada LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development Program) for physical literacy, fitness and skills development. Competition training classes are not “style-specific”, meaning that any karate practitioner, regardless of their training style or dojo affiliation, can register for these classes. Training follows the Karate Canada LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development) guidelines. Training is for both kata (forms) and kumite (sparring) and is based off of WKF (World Karate Federation) rules. These classes will also be in support of the KNB (Karate New Brunswick) provincial training program for provincial athletes. Classes are structured as follows:

Please note: On the first Saturday of every month, competition class will only be 1 hour as KNB has the Dojo booked out on those days.


Competition - Kata: Ages 10 and up• Saturdays 9 -10:30 $30 per month

Beginner & Intermediate Kata competition training for athletes interested in competing at the provincial - national level. Learn the rules of competition and different styles of kata.

Competition - Kumite: Ages 10 and up• Saturdays 10:30 -12 $30 per month

Beginner & Intermediate Kumite competition training for athletes interested in competing at the provincial - national level. Students must use their own training gear.

Note: If you sign up for both classes above, the rate is $45 per month.

KOBUJUTSU (WEAPONS) CLASSES

RyuKyu Kobujutsu is an Okinawan based weapons training system that teaches Bo (wooden staff), Sai (spike), Tonfa (short wooden handle), Kama (small bladed sickle) and Nanchaku (wooden sticks chained together). This is an ancient martial art that is separate from karate but complimentary in many ways. However, there is no karate experience necessary to take these classes. Beginners are welcome! In addition to these classes, there will be opportunities to attend full day clinics throughout the year.

Kobujutsu

White to Green: Mondays• 6-7 60 MINUTES (Ages 10 and up) $30 per month

Brown & Black: Wednesdays• 6-7 60 MINUTES $35 per month

Training starts with the Bo staff and is a graduated belt ranking system similar to karate. Parents and children can train together in this class with training progression based on the individual. Students learn basics techniques along with forms (choreographed attack/defend sequences).

The Ryu Kyu Kobujutsu curriculum is adhered to with intermittent grading (tests) based on individual progression.

Self Defense Classes (Offered through clinics)

(Ages 12+) Classes are based on Chito-Ryu karate concepts and modern self defense principles. This is not a karate class and no karate experience is necessary. However, karate practitioners are encouraged to attend and will benefit from this fresh perspective! Classes are designed for systematic responses to defending one self and participants learn to react and move effectively. Learn passive grab escapes and submission holds.
